In Pursuit of an Organized Life

. . . putting life in order

Holiday Bucket List

I do not have an official Bucket List for my life.   It seems to far away and complicated what I might want to accomplish and do in the next decades.   So many unknowns and possibilities.   So I’m starting small.  Here is what I would like to do between now and New Years.   Realistically,  I know I may not get to all of these and I may find new adventures that I didn’t even think of, but it’s a start.

  • Put up and decorate tree
  • Watch Elf
  • Make ornaments with the girls  (purchased ornaments to make)
  • Watch other Christmas movie 1 2 3  (Grinch,  Mickey’s Christmas)
  • See the Holiday Lights
  • Take the girls to see Santa
  • Bake with the girls 1 2 3
  • Wrap presents 1 2, 3
  • Drink Eggnog or Tom and Jerry’s
  • Try a Spiced Mocha (I liked it, but a little bit more mild than I was expecting)
  • Play on the pond/ Ice Skate
  • Play in the snow
  • Elf on the Shelf
  • Listen to Full Transiberian Orchestra CD
  • Listen to Full Candlelight Processional CD
  • Nighttime Walk

That’s all I can think of for now.  I may add more later.

Quote of the week

“As you make your way along life’s tumultuous highways, it’s important to note that you should always carry a map, have plenty of fuel in the tank, and take frequent rest stops. “
Octavia Spencer
I thought this was appropriate during a week of travel.   Safe travels!

Smooth Surfaces

Music is on.    Husband is about to leave.   Off to try to clean off the clutter and organize the surfaces.   Counters, Tables, and Desk.   For me clear surfaces gives me the biggest sense of satisfaction.   If there are a few things on it, soon it multiplies and becomes a few hundred tiny things that don’t need to be there.   It may be ambitious for one evening, but it’s worth a shot.

Then Friday and Saturday I hope to focus on general cleaning and clutter.   Saturday night out with friends and Sunday family comes over.  So excited!!

Sleep vs Productivity

The kids were in bed.  Then comes the age-old question—-sleep, productivity, or relax.  I’ve been trying to choose either sleep or productivity more often.  Relaxing often becomes mindlessly surfing the internet for way too long or watching a show that I recorded and could watch whenever I want. to.  Yesterday I choose light productivity with light relaxing (laundry, dishes, and brainless TV).   Today I choose sleep.   Busy weekend ahead.

Insight of the Day

I’m trying to be better at throwing away things that I USED to like.   Before the stain, before it was broken, when it fit, etc.    Even if I once loved it,  does it serve a purpose for me NOW.   Work in progress.

Weekend Plans

The house is at a decent baseline.  The main areas are tidy, but not spotless.  I feel satisfied with the progress I’ve made this weekend.

I have a night out and guests coming next weekend.  Such a great mix to motivate me to get stuff done.   I’m excited to plan the menu and try to clear off some areas of the house I’ve been avoiding.

I also have a kid free day off tomorrow.  I’m hoping to get some errands done and also do some sorting and filing tasks that are better done without distractions.  I’m trying to be realistic about what I can accomplish and prioritize what I really want to do without the kids.

Off to get some more basics done–groceries and exercise.

Have a great day!
